Let’s talk about your period

So what is normal?
Your period is a monthly report on your whole system. Every cycle, your body tells you what is out of balance — if you know how to read it.
So let me teach you.
Peristeam Hydrotherapy
Vaginal steaming
A gentle, warming practice used by women for thousands of years, across Korea, Central and South America, West and East Africa, Indonesia, the Caribbean, and many more, to care for the womb between cycles.
The seven imbalances
We use Traditional Chinese Medicine to evaluate the seven main imbalances within the menstrual cycle.
01
Stagnation
Old residue building up from poor circulation. Brown or black blood, clotting, cramping, heavy bleeding, and pain during your period.
05
Blood deficiency
Not enough blood being built. Pale blood, pink or orange, spotting, a period under four days, pink still showing after it ends, and anemia.
02
Excess heat
Too much heat held in the system. Hot flashes, night sweats, infections, and heavy bleeding. Common through perimenopause, menopause, and after.
06
Uterine fatigue
A uterus worn down by stress, exhaustion, and too little rest during your period. Spotting and short periods. In Traditional Chinese Medicine this is a spleen qi deficiency — the spleen holds blood in the vessels and holds the organs up, so when it is depleted, blood falls before it should.
03
Dryness
Not enough fluid, from dehydration — and in Traditional Chinese Medicine, from a kidney deficiency. Flaky discharge, dry blood, and night sweats.
07
Weak digestion
Food that is not being broken down and absorbed well. Nausea, vomiting, bloating, and fatigue overall.
04
Dampness
Excess mucus and fluid building up in the body. Vaginal discharge, often discolored, along with fibroids and infections.
Most women carry more than one, and that is why the steam plan can change over time.
Schedule a consultation with a peristeam hydrotherapist to get the right herbs for your steam plan. Using the wrong herbs, or steaming for the wrong amount of time, can cause issues with your cycle.

Feeling disconnected from your body
What a session looks like
1. Evaluation
We evaluate your menstrual cycle, the imbalances showing up in it, and the main concerns you came in with.
2. Steam plan and herb selection
We build your steam plan and select the herbs that match your imbalances — gentle, cooling, disinfecting, or cleansing.
3. Steam protocol
We go over how to prepare your herbs, whether your session is 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or longer depending on the issue, and how often and how long you should be steaming.
4. Diet and lifestyle
I give you food and diet recommendations to support the steaming process, along with the lifestyle changes that will help your body respond to it.
5. Ongoing work
Most clients work with me for three to six months. The goal is to get you onto a maintenance plan so no further imbalances arise — and if one does, you already have the knowledge and the steps in place to correct it yourself.
6. You, on your own
That is what I am working toward with every client. Not a standing appointment, but a woman who understands her own imbalances and knows how to use diet, steaming, and lifestyle to prevent them — in her cycle and in her hormonal health overall.

A plan to conceive, built around your cycle
What happens after
After the initial consult, I will come up with a plan for how many months we need to work together. Each month we meet to reevaluate your cycle and change anything in your steam plan if we need to.
Usually clients work with me for three to six months. It could be longer or shorter depending on the issue and your progress. Ongoing sessions are billed monthly.
